The Prophet

What shall we say to the contemporary liking for psychics? What about the popularity among young people for neo-pagan Wiccan spiritualism? There is a hunger for knowledge about the future and the world beyond our natural perceptions. The Bible addresses this craving. There is a liberating way to connect with the other world. There is also one that is improper and ultimately fatal.

“When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead” (Deuteronomy 18:9-11).

The alternative is direction from God. He promised Moses, “I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him” (Deuteronomy 18:18). This promised prophet is Jesus Christ (Acts 3:22). The Bible contains His words (1 Peter 1:10-11). His words are truth (John 17:17). This truth sets you free (John 8:32). If Christ sets you free, you are truly free (John 8:36).
