Terrifying Yet Comforting

We all make appointments to see the doctor or to go to the beauty shop. With our busy schedules, we appreciate people making appointments to see us. We sure look down on a person who does not keep his or her appointments.

Did you know that God has made some important appointments for you? Whether you like it or not, you will keep all your appointments with God! You see, although God has not let you in on all His secrets, He does have a plan for your life. A part of God’s plan involves Jesus Christ entering the world to die on the cross to pay the penalty due to others for their sins. The Bible says, “He who believes in Him shall not be disappointed” (1 Peter 2:6). But quite a number of people reject this part of God’s plan. To these people, Christ becomes “`A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this they were also appointed” (1 Peter 2:8).

I sincerely hope that you are not keeping an appointment to stumble over Christ. That could be terrifying. Your eternal welfare hangs in the balance! My sincere prayer is that you will keep an appointment to trust in Christ’s love displayed on the cross. Now there is only one way to tell which appointment has been made for you. God won’t let you look into His appointment book. You must acknowledge your sins before God. You must repent of those sins; you must turn away from them. Then you must turn to Christ for forgiveness. You must trust in the sacrifice of Christ as the only adequate payment for your sins. Then you can have the assurance of a place in God’s household.
