“Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
Teach me your paths.”

Praying for the Spirit

When you have a telephone call, it’s easy to say, “Tell them I’m not here.” The kids get the idea. Why tell the folks the truth about last night? After all, you lie to your friends. The seeming innocent lack of truth spurs them down the same path. What’s the answer?

Listen to what Jesus Christ promises, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. When He enters the lives of human beings, He guides them into truth. Unfortunately, there are also “deceitful spirits” in the world (1 Timothy 4:1). When you hear a lie, when someone is trying to deceive you, the “spirit of error” is at work (1 John 4:6).

You need to pray for the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:13). If you are without the Holy Spirit, ask God to give you this great gift of His Spirit. You know how to give good gifts to your children. God knows how to give the most precious of gifts to you too, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will revolutionize your life. Truth will become important to you. It may become so important you will see your own sin and get right with God. Are you up to the challenge? Then pray for the Spirit to come into your life.
