The Good News concerns a terrible murder. But can evil be good? Well, the greatest evil ever perpetrated by man was the crucifixion of Christ. Here was a man who was perfectly good. He never did a single thing wrong. That’s because He was and is God! But men and women hated Him. The Jewish leaders wanted Him killed “because of envy” (Matthew 27:18). And the apostle Peter proclaimed, “This Man, delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death” (Acts 2:22). This means the crucifixion was an evil deed accomplished by godless men!
But this same verse in the Bible says that God planned the crucifixion. It came about “by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God.” But God is good. “No one is good except God alone” (Luke 18:19). How could a good God plan this evil act? There can only be one explanation. God had a good plan for this evil act of the crucifixion. And God’s good plan for Jesus Christ was that “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross” (1 Peter 2:24). “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
