“Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
Teach me your paths.”

Christ Living and Dying for Others

What assurance do you have there is a place for you in God’s heaven? Many people respond, “Well, I’m not so bad.” Wait a minute, Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Do you fulfill this requirement? Do you love God with your whole heart?

Psalm 14:2 & 3 answers, “The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside…There is no one who does good, not even one.” There you have it! God says, “There is no one who does good, not even one.” There goes our excuse. These words cut at the heart of our dependence upon our own good woks to get us to heaven.

We may dedicate time to our church and give to the poor; but the Bible says, “All our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment” (Isaiah 64:6). Our good deeds do not earn us a place in heaven.

Jesus Christ is the way to heaven. He did two great things! He died on the cross to pay for the sins of people like you and me. Christ also lived an absolutely perfect life. He did this for people like you and me. He obeyed the Father in the death He died and in the life He lived! And so, when you bow before Christ, you are cleansed from sin and you are also clothed with Christ’s good works. You receive the gift of His righteousness! Yes, “Those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).
